Developed by eight university students who formed Arrowhead Game Studios, Magicka sold hundreds of thousands of copies in its opening weeks and is now about to get its first DLC. Premiering at GDC, the announcement trailer for Magicka: Vietnam looked too funny to be true. But it’s real and its coming in two weeks.
Unlike most fantasy games containing magic, there is no mana system or energy to spend on casting spells is Magicka. Instead, there are eight distinct elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Lighting, Cold, Shield, Arcane and Life) which players can use in combination to cast a variety of spells, from area of effect blasts and projectiles to shield barriers. Now, the wizards will have to battle their way through war-torn Vietnam.
I love the promo art (above) which you can see in the trailer below, except that the planes depicted didn’t exist during Vietnam. But who cares, it’s Magicka!
Here’s the official description, followed by the official Magicka: Vietnam trailer.
